Patrick Hunt’s Ph.D. (1991) from the Institute of Archaeology, UCL (University College London), part of the University of London, is in Archaeology - specifically Archaeological Science. Hunt also studied at the American School of Classical Studies, Athens (historical Greek topography and archaeology), and at the Institute of Classical Studies, London (Papyrology and Numismatics), and at the University of California, Berkeley (Latin, Greek Mythology and Greek Art History). Graduate Courses taken at the Institute of Archaeology UCL in London include: Archaeology Field Methods; Geoarchaeology (including GIS and Palynology); Stone Technology and Deterioration; Ceramic Technology; Metallography of Ancient Metals; and Nautical Archaeology. Hunt also had two graduate internships with the U. S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park (Petrography and Radiocarbon Lab). Postdoctorates and fellowships include at University of California, Berkeley in Near Eastern Studies (1992-94) and multiple Visiting Scholar affiliations at Stanford in Classics and other departments (1992 on).

With fieldwork sponsored via National Geographic Expedition Council grant, for some of his field research on Hannibal in the Alps, Carthage and Europe, Hunt is currently an Expeditions Expert for National Geographic Expeditions (https://www.nationalgeographic.com/expeditions/experts/patrick-hunt/) and has been a frequent keynote speaker for National Geographic Learning (2017-2020). Hunt is also an elected Fellow of both the Royal Geographical Society (U.K.) and the Explorers Club of New York City. Hunt has taught since 1993 at Stanford University, both to undergraduates and graduate students from 1994-2012 and to postgraduates from 1993-2021. Hunt is also a Research Associate in Archeoethnobotany for the Institute of EthnoMedicine. Hunt has published 25 books including with Penguin Group and Simon and Schuster.
